Winter Tune Up Checklist

  1. Visual Inspection:

      • Lubricate all moving parts, including rollers, hinges, springs, and tracks.
      • Greese opener rail.
  3. Balance Check:
    • Test the balance of the garage door by disconnecting the opener and manually lifting it.
    • The door should stay in place or slowly rise when partially opened. If it falls, it may be unbalanced.
  4. Torsion Spring Inspection:
    • Examine the torsion springs for signs of wear, rust, or damage.
    • Ensure they are properly tensioned and adjusted.
  5. Safety Features:
    • Test the safety features, such as the photoelectric sensors, to make sure they reverse the door if an object is in the way.
  6. Opener Inspection:
    • Check the opener for loose chains or belts.
    • Ensure the safety release mechanism is functioning correctly.
  7. Weatherstripping:
    • Inspect and replace weatherstripping to keep out drafts and pests.
  8. Cable Inspection:
    • Examine the cables for fraying or damage.
    • Make sure they are properly tensioned.
  9. Track Alignment:
    • Check the tracks for alignment and ensure they are properly secured to the wall.
  10. Garage Door Panels:
    • Inspect the panels for dents, cracks, or damage.
    • Replace or repair damaged panels as needed.
  11. Remote and Keypad Testing:
    • Test all remote controls and keypads to ensure they open and close the door reliably.
  12. Battery Replacement:
    • Replace batteries in remotes, keypads, and the backup battery for the opener if applicable.
  13. Clean and Lubricate Rollers:
    • Clean the rollers and lubricate them to reduce friction and noise.
  14. Tighten Hardware:
    • Ensure all nuts and bolts are securely tightened.
  15. Educate the Customer:
    • Provide the customer with tips on garage door maintenance and safety.
  16. Recommendations:
    • Inform the customer of any necessary repairs or upgrades, such as replacing worn-out parts or upgrading to a more energy-efficient garage door.
  17. Schedule Next Tune-up:
    • Encourage the customer to schedule their next garage door tune-up.
