Winter Tune Up Checklist

- Visual Inspection:
- Inspect the garage door for any signs of wear, damage, or rust.
- Check for loose or missing hardware.
- Lubrication:
- Lubricate all moving parts, including rollers, hinges, springs, and tracks.
- Greese opener rail.
- Balance Check:
- Test the balance of the garage door by disconnecting the opener and manually lifting it.
- The door should stay in place or slowly rise when partially opened. If it falls, it may be unbalanced.
- Torsion Spring Inspection:
- Examine the torsion springs for signs of wear, rust, or damage.
- Ensure they are properly tensioned and adjusted.
- Safety Features:
- Test the safety features, such as the photoelectric sensors, to make sure they reverse the door if an object is in the way.
- Opener Inspection:
- Check the opener for loose chains or belts.
- Ensure the safety release mechanism is functioning correctly.
- Weatherstripping:
- Inspect and replace weatherstripping to keep out drafts and pests.
- Cable Inspection:
- Examine the cables for fraying or damage.
- Make sure they are properly tensioned.
- Track Alignment:
- Check the tracks for alignment and ensure they are properly secured to the wall.
- Garage Door Panels:
- Inspect the panels for dents, cracks, or damage.
- Replace or repair damaged panels as needed.
- Remote and Keypad Testing:
- Test all remote controls and keypads to ensure they open and close the door reliably.
- Battery Replacement:
- Replace batteries in remotes, keypads, and the backup battery for the opener if applicable.
- Clean and Lubricate Rollers:
- Clean the rollers and lubricate them to reduce friction and noise.
- Tighten Hardware:
- Ensure all nuts and bolts are securely tightened.
- Educate the Customer:
- Provide the customer with tips on garage door maintenance and safety.
- Recommendations:
- Inform the customer of any necessary repairs or upgrades, such as replacing worn-out parts or upgrading to a more energy-efficient garage door.
- Schedule Next Tune-up:
- Encourage the customer to schedule their next garage door tune-up.
